Just a couple of things further to today’s Money Tree.
One of them will greatly empower your linking strategy (I was taught this by an SEO expert with nearly a decade of experience)
…and the other will ensure your website isn’t blasted off the Internet by unscrupulous ‘link providers’!
- Ideally you want people to link you in the context of your keywords. The best way to show you is to use an example…
If I want Google to give me the most kudos possible when getting my site linked, ideally I want there to be keywords in the link text. So instead of having this link:
I would have this link:
The best business opportunity forum on the net
In other words, Google actually looks at the text surrounding the link. The words ‘click here’ don’t actually mean anything. They’re certainly not relevant to business opportunities - hence we’ve lost a chance to associate your site with its keywords.
Having said that, don’t be too gun ho about it. It might be tricky to get websites who are willing to link to you to do this - so don’t push your luck. It’s certainly better to have a link rather than no link at all.
Perhaps you could approach the situation by naming your site something slightly different to it’s URL when you email for a link swap. For instance I could try having TheMoneyAnimalBlog linked to as ‘Business Opportunities Blog’ instead. Problem solved!
Now the next thing to mention is rather vital:
- NEVER NEVER NEVER use link farms.
Now by link farms I mean websites that consist of nothing but links (ie link farm) who will offer to put your site up for a small fee.
This was a very powerful website marketing tool in the past, but now Google actually penalises sites that use these link farms. In fact you can, in some cases, even get kicked off the search engines altogether!
This is an important point, one which I’ll expand on later. But for now: if it looks like it could be a link farm - avoid like the plague!
Ta for now.

Dear sir or madam,
my name is Malcolm Manby, an educator and road safety consultant, who has won a national road safety award with safe-lites, from the Institute of Highways and Transportation, sponsored by the Mobil Oil Company. Safe-lites are approved to British Safety Standards.
Having an education, especially a good one, displaying culture, taste and knowledge will improve all pupils knowledge, we also feel that road safety is a specific and paramount subject, while going to school. If pupils are taught of prevention of accidents when walking or cycling to school and before they start to learn to drive, this would be an advantage for them, caring for the younger generation, and all road users, who drive on the Highways and byways at night in adverse weather conditions, or unlit and badly lighted areas.
Reducing accidents by 75% and at less cost with safe-lites, is our target, making roads safer for all road users is possible, by giving a superior service of any in existence at this time.
This has been achieved with the cooperation of many companies like the I.C.I. Demag Hamilton, Armatage Monobond and Yorkshire Plastics.
Safe-lites give a continuous line of light on both sides of the road as far as drivers can see, they give a true view of the width and alignment, relaying more information than cats-eyes.
As cats-eyes put red and green on the nearside of the carriageway they are the worst colours for colour blindness, when installed in the middle of the roads they make drivers veer to the centre risking head on collision in fog, they are prone to heavy vehicles running over them, road resurfacing, snow covering them up or the snow plough uprooting them, they do not relay information of which direction you are travelling, of danger or the distance, whereas safe-lites do, with colour coding that cut’s out confusion, without distracting drivers attention or concentration from the road, making a safer driving environment, that improves conditions, standards and behaviour, also giving a visibility of excellence, to turn night into day making our roads much safer and a major contribution to road safety, as well as being effectively and simply understood, they will save us money from the shrinking budget every year.
We can overcome the problems of the language barrier, and the defects that are everywhere apparent at many locations, all vehicles will display their height, width and length with coloured reflectors, they are the key to solve most of the highway problems, as well reducing the massive energy consumption that benefits the community.

Yours safely Malcolm Manby.
